FAQ

Quick answers about how Regulate works, your data, and Regulate+ billing.

Regulate is a simple emotion-tracking tool designed to help people who struggle to regulate emotions and make sense of how they’re feeling.

It was created by a developer with ADHD (combined type) and BPD, using an “anti-overwhelm” approach: everything is optional, you can keep entries short, and you can search instead of being forced into a calendar view.

You don’t need to have the same diagnoses to use Regulate — it’s for anyone who wants a calmer, less pressurised way to check in with their emotions.

We use your account details so you can sign in securely and keep your entries private to you. Your email can also be used for basic account actions (like password resets). Regulate does not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Your Regulate account data is used only to run the app (for example: saving your entries and showing them back to you). It isn’t shared with third parties for marketing, and it isn’t used outside of Regulate.

You can add a new entry from your dashboard by choosing “Add New Entry”. Fill in the hue slider, emotions, and notes, then save. To edit an entry, go to “Your Entries”, open the entry, and choose edit. You can update it at any time, and Regulate keeps a simple history of changes.

Yes. On the free plan you can create up to 10 entries. After that, you can still view your existing entries, but creating and editing is paused until you start a free trial or subscription.

This helps keep the service sustainable while still letting free users try the core features.

After you sign up, you can start a 5-day free trial from the Regulate+ page. During the trial you get full access to Regulate+ features. You won’t be charged until the trial ends. You can cancel before the end of the trial to avoid being billed.

The trial is limited to one per user so it stays fair and can’t be repeated indefinitely. If you’ve already used your trial and want Regulate+ again later, you can restart a paid subscription from the Regulate+ page.

Billing is handled securely through Stripe. On the Regulate+ page, select Manage billing in Stripe and you’ll be taken to Stripe’s billing portal. From there you can update your card details, billing info, and view invoices.

No. Card details are processed and stored by Stripe, not Regulate. This means Regulate never directly handles your card number.

Yes. You can delete entries from your entries list. Deleting an entry removes it from your account.

Supportive Phrases are short, gentle prompts you can generate from your dashboard. They pull from an external quote source and there’s also a built-in fallback list in case the external service is unavailable.

No. Regulate is a self-support tool and isn’t a substitute for professional care. If you’re in immediate danger or feel unsafe, please use the Crisis & Support page for urgent contact options.

The dashboard will soon include simple graphs so you can see emotion and mood patterns over time. There are also plans to let you download your entries as a PDF, so you can share them with therapists, doctors, or other mental health professionals if you choose to.

Contact and support information is available on the Contact & Support page. This includes links to external mental health organisations and crisis resources.

For security, Regulate may log you out after sensitive account changes (like updating your password). This helps protect your account, especially if you’re using a shared device.
